Our #6 ranked music notation software is QuickStart Studio. This program is iMake Sheets Music's younger brother and it inherits the same note entry problems that we found in iMake.
Despite this issue, the software package still offers a number of great features and holds over 1000 staves, which are a lot of tunes.
QuickStart Studio's palette system is very user friendly; however, we had a difficult time figuring out how to enter a single note on the staff and the help section said nothing about this.
QuickStart Studio's features are similar to iMake Sheet Music's, and include a metronome, real-time music entry and time display. The software also holds 1000 staves and offers a lightning-short note duration of 128ths.
The program is limited to one line of lyric entry and it doesn't give the option of writing percussion notation.
There were no problems installing QuickStart Studio Composer
The MIDI files imported quickly and we could play and edit the music right away. The mixer that appeared at the bottom of the page was extremely helpful.
QuickStart is very similar to iMake Sheet Music in that when you record both step-time and real-time, the notation appears in real time.
QuickStart offers shortcut keys, symbol palettes and mouse editing.
This program lacks is the ability to punch record.
The manufacturer offers phone support and an online form so you can contact customer service with questions and concerns.
The only operating system supported is Windows XP.
QuickStart Studio offers some quality features and has tons of space for staves. We found it more difficult to enter notes than with some of the other music notation software in the review.
